Motorcycle Wiring

We never cease to be amazed at the horrible things people do to bike wiring; even members of the motorcycle trade! Not long ago we had a ZX6R in with a burned out wiring loom - why? The MOT station volunteered to 'fix' the faulty rear indicator (blown bulb as it turned out) by connecting the positive out from trhe alarm to the bikes negative earth.

We often modernise parts of motorcycle wiring where the originals were a bit duff, as above, where we replaced the troublesome Kawasaki glass cartridge fuses with a modern blade type system, which is easier to get fuses for and is far more reliable. Owners are less tempted to replace the fuses with sawn off six inch nails - don't laugh we've seen it before and replaced the main looms with the resultant electrical fire :)

The wiring looms on many classic bikes are becomeing very tired now and really need changing. On the more popular bikes, like the Z900s etc, you can often buy pattern looms which we often fit. Some even come with new handlebar switches!

Less common bikes, however, will need us to build a whole new loom from scratch. It's a time consuming task, but we always build them to a high standard and replace the old wiring with modern thinwall cable which makes the looms appreciably less bulky.

When we assemble connectors on bikes we work on we always squirt some ACF50 Corrosion Block grease into the connectors which protects them from the elements

CDI pick up repair

Sometimes parts are hard to come by and the above electronic ignition pick-ups were no exception. The insulation had come away from the pick-up units, so need some clever fettling to save the rare part. As you can see in the right pic, we managed to save this unit and the engine is now throwing out over 90 BHP at the back wheel with no misfires!

Had the above ignition been beyond repair we would have replaced it with a Dyna-S ignition module.

We can supply and fit various makes for electronic ignition to classic bikes.

You should have seen this when it came in!

No bike wiring job is ever too big or small. We will sometimes take on small works in customers garages, but we prefer to working in our own workshops where we have massive amounts of equipment that will allow us to fashion brackets etc and bead blast and electroplate parts where needed.
